What is True People Pay?

We now have two ways that you can send money to just about anyone in the United States, using your computer or smartphone app. True People Pay is a safe and convenient way to send money to other people.  All you need to send someone money is their email address, mobile phone number, or PayPal account.

How does True People Pay work?

It’s easy to send money to someone using True People Pay. Launch the Monona Bank app and enter their e-mail address or mobile number and the amount you want to send. Even easier, if you've sent them money previously, just select their name from your contact list and enter the amount you wish to send them. You can also send money through MononaBank Online.

How do I Enroll in True People Pay?

To use True People Pay you must first be signed up to use MononaBank Online. Signing up is fast and easy! In MononaBank Online, sign up for True People Pay, establish which of your accounts you want to use to send money and agree to the terms and conditions. Once you have established True People Pay in your MononaBank Online account, you will have the ability to utilize True People Pay in our app.

Can I use this service on the True Mobile Banking app?

Yes!  This option is available on our True Mobile Banking app and is as easy as sending a text message. You must be signed up to use MononaBank Online first before you can enroll in True Mobile Banking.

Is there a cost to use this service?

Monona Bank does not charge a fee.  However, your normal data and text message rates may apply.

What are the transaction limits?

Does a recipient have to be a client of Monona Bank or set up a special account?

No. If the person you're sending money to is not registered with True People Pay, they will receive an e-mail or text inviting them to use the service and to claim the money. The recipient will then use a secure website to enter their information and claim their money. It’s fast and easy, much faster than waiting for cash or waiting to receive a check.

What options does a recipient have in order to claim money when they get an email or text message payment?

After entering in their contact information and claim code, they can request money by ACH (sent to their bank account) or PayPal.

Can I use True People Pay on my tablet?

Yes, depending on what type of tablet you have, just download the Android or iPhone Monona Bank banking app or login to your account at

If I change my mind, can I cancel a payment?

Yes, if you select to pay by text or email, you may cancel it as long as the recipient hasn’t claimed the payment. Payments sent via PayPal or ACH cannot be canceled.

How do I receive my payment?

When someone sends you money, you will receive either an email or text notification.  If you have already set up your True People Pay, the payment will be sent directly to the Incoming Payments Tab in People Pay.  From there you will decide how you want to receive your money (directly to your bank account or to PayPal). That’s it, it’s that simple.

How does a person receive money from me?

How do I receive my payment if I bank with Monona Bank, but I do not use MononaBank Online?

You will receive a text or email notifying you of the payment.  The notification will have instructions on how to claim your money through a secure website.   We encourage you to sign up for MononaBank Online and activate your account. Then receiving a payment is even easier.  Sign up today here.

How secure is my financial and personal information?

True People Pay uses several methods to ensure that your information is secure.

  • SSL – True People Pay uses SSL (secure sockets layer) which ensures that your connection and information are secure from outside inspection.
  • Encryption – True People Pay uses 128-bit encryption to make your information unreadable as it passes over the Internet.

Security is also utilized at specific points and actions in the product. For example, to help prevent an unauthorized person from fraudulently depositing someone else’s payment, one-time passcodes are used. For every initial payment to a new email address or mobile phone number, a one-time passcode is sent to the user. The user must provide that passcode to verify “ownership” of that mobile number or email address before they can deposit the payment.
